Tatcha The Dewy Skin Cream: Rich Texture, and a Fragrance Contradiction

The Dewy Skin Cream is $74 for 50 ml. Tatcha markets it as formulated without synthetic fragrances — and the published ingredient list includes fragrance, with citral, limonene and linalool. Both things are on the brand’s own pages.

The fragrance point

Tatcha publishes that the cream is “formulated without mineral oil, synthetic fragrances, sulfate detergents, parabens, urea, DEA, TEA, or phthalates”. The published INCI list includes fragrance (parfum) along with citral, limonene and linalool — all fragrance components that carry EU allergen labelling requirements.

A natural fragrance is still a fragrance as far as reactive skin is concerned. If you avoid fragrance in skincare, the “without synthetic fragrances” line is not the reassurance it appears to be, and you should read the full list before buying.

What is in it

• Hyaluronic acid and red algae, to hydrate and plump the look of lines
• Japanese purple rice, described as protective against the look of fine lines
• Biomimetic squalane, to seal in moisture
• Saccharomyces / rice ferment filtrate, glycerin, propanediol
• Botanicals including camellia sinensis, panax ginseng and origanum majorana

Texture and who it suits

Tatcha positions it as a rich, line-plumping moisturiser aimed at a dewy finish. That texture is the deciding factor: it is a genuinely heavy cream, and on oily or congested skin a rich occlusive finish is a different experience from what the marketing photography suggests.

The brand publishes it as non-comedogenic and dermatologist tested.

How to apply it

Scoop with the gold spoon, massage onto face, neck and décolletage in upward strokes, morning and night. The spoon is not just presentation — dipping fingers into a 50 ml jar twice a day is how a cream picks up bacteria.

The refill, and its restriction

Tatcha sells a refill for the 50 ml jar, but restricts it to jars purchased after 1 August 2024. If you have an older jar, the refill will not be sold to you as compatible. Worth checking before you buy the refill expecting to save money.

On the price

$74 for the full 50 ml size, corrected from the $72 this page previously carried. Mini, Refill and Gratitude sizes exist but their prices did not render on the pages we could read, so we are not guessing at them.
