Peacock Premium vs Premium Plus: Is the $7 Upgrade Worth It?

Hand holding a remote control pointed at a blurred television menu

Peacock sells two paid tiers that carry the same catalogue. The gap between them is $7 a month and comes down to three things: downloads, a live local NBC channel, and how much advertising you are willing to sit through.

★ The two tiers side by side

  • Premium: $12.99/month — ad-supported, no downloads
  • Premium Plus: $19.99/month or $199.99/year — ad-free on demand, downloads included
  • Both tiers: 3 concurrent streams, identical content library
  • New pricing effective 18 August 2026 for new subscribers

What you actually gain

  • Offline downloads. Premium has none at all. Premium Plus allows up to 25 titles at a time across all devices.
  • A live local NBC station inside the Channels section, chosen by geolocation.
  • Ad-free on-demand viewing, which Peacock qualifies as applying “with limited exceptions”.

What you do not gain

Nothing in the catalogue changes. Both tiers carry the same shows, films and next-day NBC episodes, and both cap you at three simultaneous streams. 4K is available on select badged titles for Premium and Premium Plus subscribers alike on compatible devices — it is not a Premium Plus exclusive.

Peacock publishes no minutes-per-hour advertising figure for the Premium tier, so exactly how much advertising you are escaping is not a documented number.

The catch in “ad-free”

The live local NBC channel that comes with Premium Plus carries its own commercial breaks. It also cannot be paused, rewound or fast-forwarded, and it is subject to blackouts. So the tier that removes advertising is also the one that adds the part of Peacock guaranteed to have it.

How to decide

If you never download and never watch NBC live, the upgrade buys the removal of advertising and nothing else — an $84 a year decision.

If you fly, commute without signal, or want your local NBC station in the app, Premium Plus is the only tier that does it. The annual plan works out to roughly $16.67 a month, if you are confident you will keep it for the year.
