Nespresso Vertuo Pop vs Vertuo Pop+: The US Model Changed, and So Did the Cup Sizes

Nespresso USA no longer lists the Vertuo Pop. The machine sold in the US now is the Vertuo Pop+, and it is not a cosmetic refresh — it has a different water tank and one more cup size than the original. Anyone comparing the two needs to keep the spec sheets apart.

Which machine you are actually looking at

Nespresso USA’s Vertuo catalogue lists the Vertuo Pop+ in Beige, Candy Pink, Pacific Blue, Spicy Red, Matte Black and Deluxe Titan. The original Vertuo Pop is still listed on some non-US Nespresso sites but not in the US range.

This page previously said “Vertuo Pop, $109”. That names a model Nespresso USA no longer sells, at a price that matches nothing we could verify.

It is not an espresso machine in the usual sense

Vertuo uses Centrifusion — the capsule spins at up to 4,000 rpm and the coffee is extracted by centrifugal force, with a barcode on each capsule telling the machine what to do. There is no 19-bar pump and no portafilter.

This matters practically: you cannot use Nespresso Original capsules, you cannot use third-party Original pods, and you cannot pull a shot the way you would on a pump machine. The machine decides the brew, not you.

The pod cost we will not guess at

Vertuo capsules are a required ongoing cost, and they are the real expense of owning one of these. We tried to read a per-pod or per-sleeve price from Nespresso USA and could not — those pages are JavaScript-rendered.

Rather than repeat a per-pod figure from a third party, we are leaving it blank. Price a sleeve on Nespresso’s own site before you buy the machine; the capsules will cost more than the machine within the first year for most households.
