Kindle Paperwhite 16GB (12th Gen): Specs, Price, and Why We Could Not Read Amazon’s Own Page
The current Paperwhite is the 12th-generation 2024 model with a 7-inch, 300 ppi screen and 16 GB of storage. It is $159.99 at Target — not the $149 this page previously said. And there is an unusual caveat about where these specs come from.

A transparency note first
Amazon.com blocks automated access to its product and help pages via robots.txt. That means not one specification on this page was read from an Amazon-controlled page. Everything below comes from Target’s listing, Best Buy’s listing, or the-ebook-reader.com, an independent site.
We are telling you this because a review that quietly presents second-hand specs as manufacturer specs is exactly the kind of thing that makes product pages untrustworthy. Verify the weight and dimensions against Amazon’s own spec table before relying on them.
Which generation this is
The 12th generation, released in 2024, with a 7-inch screen. The 11th-generation 6.8-inch Paperwhite is still widely listed by resellers and is a different device — do not mix the two spec sheets, which several comparison sites do.
The specifications

The price, and one odd listing
Target lists $159.99 for the 16 GB ad-supported model, matching the launch price. Best Buy showed $199.99 for what its listing describes as the same 2024 16 GB model — but $199.99 is the Signature Edition launch price, so we are treating that as a mislabelled listing rather than a real price.
$149 was wrong and has been corrected.
Ads, and what removing them costs
The $159.99 model is ad-supported: sponsored screensavers on the lock screen. The ad-free version launched at $179.99. The box contains the device, a USB-C cable and a quick start guide — no power adapter.
What Signature Edition adds
32 GB instead of 16, wireless charging, and an auto-adjusting front light, at $199.99. If none of those three matter, the standard model is the same reading experience for $40 less.
Amazon’s published performance claim for this generation is 25% faster page turns and 20% faster overall than its predecessor. No independent verification of that figure was found.
