The Extras Decide Whether a Three Plan Is Good Value

Two people can pay Three exactly the same every month and get very different value from it. One streams on the train, uses the roaming allowance on a week in Lisbon and picks up a cheap coffee every Friday. The other uses the data and nothing else.

Same plan, same bill. The difference is whether you use what comes with it.

That is the fairest way to judge a phone plan, and Three’s plans reward it more than most, because so much of the value sits in the extras.

What the monthly price buys you

Start with the core. Three sells unlimited data SIM plans, and its current unlimited SIM offer includes 12GB of data to use in 49 European destinations. For anyone who travels in Europe even once a year, that is a large part of the plan’s value on its own.

On top of that sits Three+, Three’s rewards app, which offers treats from big UK brands and a barista-made drink for £1 every week at hundreds of local cafés.

And if you are buying a phone as well, Three’s Your Way plans let you choose the device, how much you pay upfront and how long the plan runs, then add extras. Shorter or longer, cheaper upfront or cheaper monthly: you set the balance.

The sum worth doing before you sign

Three prints its annual price rises right next to the monthly price. On the unlimited SIM offer, the listing shows the starting price, then a higher price from 1 April 2027, then another from 1 April 2028.

That makes the true cost of a plan easy to work out. Multiply each price by the number of months it applies to, add them up, and you have the total you will pay over the contract. It takes two minutes, and it is the fairest way to compare one plan against another.

Then do the same sum for the extras. One £1 drink a week through Three+ is up to 52 a year. Twelve gigabytes of European roaming covers a week of maps, messages and photos away. If you would use both, count them in.

How to make the roaming count

The European allowance is the extra most people forget until they land. Before you travel, check that your destination is one of Three’s 49, and keep an eye on usage in the Three app while you are away.

For a weekend city break or a summer fortnight, 12GB goes a long way on maps, messaging and social posts. It is the kind of allowance that makes a holiday feel easier without a separate travel SIM.

Who gets the most from a Three plan

The regular traveller. Anyone heading to Europe more than once a year gets real value from the roaming allowance.

The heavy data user. Streaming, video calls and music on the move: unlimited data removes the monthly worry.

The café regular. If a weekly coffee is already part of your routine, Three+ turns it into a saving.

The planner. Your Way plans suit anyone who wants to decide the contract length and upfront cost rather than accept a fixed bundle.

Who can keep it simpler

If you are on Wi-Fi almost all day and rarely travel, you may not need unlimited data. Three also sells Pay As You Go, which can suit lighter use, so you can still be on Three without paying for an allowance you will not touch.

Making the plan work harder

Check your postcode on Three’s coverage checker before you switch, so you know what to expect at home and at work. Add up the monthly price and the April rises across the contract. Then use the extras from the first week: open Three+, claim the £1 drink, and turn on roaming before your next trip.

A plan you use fully is the best-value plan you can have. With unlimited data, European roaming and weekly rewards built in, Three gives you plenty to use.
