Disney+ With Ads: What the $11.99 Tier Leaves Out

Disney+ logo glowing on a dark screen

Disney+ with ads is $11.99 a month. The ad-free Premium tier is $18.99, or $189.99 a year. What that $7 gap buys is harder to pin down than it should be, because Disney publishes noticeably less about its cheaper plan than its rivals do.

★ Verified at a glance

  • Disney+ (With Ads): $11.99/month · no annual option published
  • Disney+ Premium (No Ads): $18.99/month or $189.99/year
  • 4K UHD and Dolby Atmos are attributed to Premium only
  • Download capability is listed under Premium, not the ad tier
  • Ads are served in select live and linear content on every tier

What Disney does state

The ad tier is described as “movies and series with ad interruptions” at $11.99 a month. Premium is $18.99 monthly or $189.99 annually, a saving Disney puts at over 16%. Only Premium is offered with annual billing.

Disney attributes 4K UHD and Dolby Atmos “on compatible devices” to the Premium plan. It attributes download capability to Premium and to the ad-free bundle tiers. It does not say, in either direction, what the ad tier gets.

What Disney does not state

We could not verify the concurrent-stream limit, the maximum resolution, or whether downloads work at all on the ad-supported tier. Disney’s help-centre articles are JavaScript-rendered and would not load, and the marketing pages say only that plans “support multiple simultaneous streams”.

No minutes-per-hour advertising figure is published either. We are flagging these as unknown rather than filling them in, because a plausible-sounding number that turns out to be wrong is worse than an admitted gap.

One thing that applies to both tiers

Disney notes that “ads will be served in select live and linear content” — including on the ad-free Premium plan. Paying to remove advertising does not remove all of it.

How to read the gap

On the published evidence, the $7 difference buys: no ad interruptions in movies and series, 4K and Atmos on compatible hardware, download capability, and the option to pay annually. If any of those four matter to you, Premium is the tier.

If none of them do, $11.99 is the price of the same catalogue — and the catalogue is the reason anyone subscribes to Disney+ in the first place.
