Woolrich Makes a Winter Coat for Every Kind of European Cold
It is minus eight on a January morning in Munich, the tram is late, and the wind is coming straight down the platform. This is the moment a good winter coat stops being a fashion decision and becomes the most useful thing you own. Woolrich has built its reputation on exactly that moment, and its European store sorts the outerwear range in a way that makes choosing easier than it first looks.
Each Woolrich coat on woolrich.com carries a weight rating with a temperature band, from heavy weight for roughly -20 °C to -10 °C down to mid weight for -10 °C to 0 °C. Start with the cold you face most often, then pick the line. Prices change by season and colour, so check the current figure on each product page.

The Arctic Parka is the coat to start with
Woolrich says the Arctic Parka dates back to 1972, when it was made to protect workers on the Alaskan pipeline. More than fifty years on, it is still the centre of the collection, and the version on the German store keeps the formula that made it famous.
The shell. It is made from Ramar Cloth, a cotton and polyamide blend that Woolrich describes as water-repellent and wind-resistant, a barrier against light showers.
The warmth. The men’s Arctic Parka is filled with grey duck down, 90 per cent down to 10 per cent feather, and the down is RDS certified. Woolrich rates it heavy weight, for -20 °C to -10 °C.
The details. A protective hood, zip and button fastening, hand-warmer pockets, flap pockets, internal pockets and ribbed inner cuffs. The fit is regular, with room for a thick jumper underneath.
For women. The women’s Arctic Parka comes in Ramar Cloth with a detachable fur trim on the hood, in a slim fit and the same heavy-weight rating. There are also versions with four pockets and in an Urban Touch fabric.
The Polar Parka adds a high collar for the coldest days
The Polar Parka in Ramar Cloth is the Arctic Parka’s sharper-looking sibling. Woolrich describes it as combining a streamlined design with functional, performance-led features, and it carries the same heavy-weight -20 °C to -10 °C rating.
What sets it apart. The high collar closes up around the chin, the zip is concealed under a storm flap, and nylon elbow patches and adjustable cuffs add durability. Pockets are angled patch pockets plus hand warmers.
Two looks. There is a version with fur trim and one without, so you can choose between a classic and a cleaner, more urban finish.

The Arctic Parka Evolution and Cloud Arctic Parka suit city winters
Not every winter day is an expedition. For mornings around freezing, Woolrich offers two lighter takes on its signature coat, both rated mid weight for -10 °C to 0 °C.
Arctic Parka Evolution. Woolrich calls this a new silhouette that reinterprets the iconic Arctic Parka. It keeps Ramar Cloth and RDS-certified 90/10 duck down, and adds a hood with a zip that lets you show or hide the Woolrich logo, zipped upper pockets and an inner drawcord at the waist.
Cloud Arctic Parka. Part of what Woolrich calls the Cloud Series, it uses a water-resistant, windproof and breathable polyester shell with 90/10 duck down. A fixed hood with drawcord, a two-way zip under a snap placket and an adjustable waist make it an easy everyday parka. It is cut in a regular fit and modelled on both men and women.

The GORE-TEX parka is the pick for wet winters
Rain and sleet are as much a part of a European winter as snow, and Woolrich has a long answer to them: its editorial pages say the brand’s partnership with GORE-TEX began in 1979.
The waterproof parka. The men’s waterproof parka in recycled two-layer GORE-TEX has fully taped seams, so it is waterproof, windproof and breathable, according to Woolrich. Inside, RDS-certified duck down and chevron quilting keep it warm, with a mid-weight -10 °C to 0 °C rating.
The practical touches. An adjustable hood, two-way zip with button closure, welt pockets outside and several pockets inside.
Wool coats for the office and the evening
The name gives it away, and the coats and trench coats section shows it. The women’s range includes coats in pure double-layer wool, wool-blend coats, a wool-blend gabardine trench, a reversible check cape and Aztec-pattern coats in pure virgin wool.
The Double Wool Coat. The standout is a maxi-length, reversible double-face coat in 100 per cent virgin wool, combining solid colours with the brand’s Buffalo Check. Woolrich says the fabric comes from one of the last traditional wool mills in Yorkshire, chosen for its compact texture and warm, firm handle.
For layering. Several 3-in-1 coats, including one in two-layer Ramar Cloth and one in waxed wool blend, give you a removable inner layer for changeable weather.
Who it suits less
If your winters rarely dip below freezing, a heavy-weight Arctic or Polar Parka will be more coat than you need. The mid-weight Evolution, Cloud or GORE-TEX parkas are the better match there.

Choosing your size and warmth before you order
Choose by temperature, not just style. The weight rating on every product page is the most useful filter in the shop. Heavy weight for real cold, mid weight for city winters.
Check the fit note. The Arctic Parka for men is regular fit, while the women’s version with fur trim is slim. Each page lists the model’s height and size, which helps you choose.
Try it at home. The German store offers free shipping and free returns, and Woolrich gives you 14 days to try a coat at home and decide whether to keep it, swap the size or colour, or send it back.
Buy for years. A coat that Woolrich has kept in production since 1972 is a piece you can wear for many winters to come, which is the best argument for choosing the right one now.
