Allbirds Tree Breezers: Sizing, Washing and What Allbirds Does Not Publish
Tree Breezers are $105 in Jet Black, and $80 in some discounted colourways — which are final sale. Allbirds names every material in them and publishes the ratio of none of them.

Fit, in Allbirds’ own words
“The Tree Breezer fits true-to-size for most customers.” The published fit descriptors are runs slightly wide and average length; one colourway page states runs moderately wide.
Allbirds also warns that the toe box may feel snug at first and that the shoe is soft and stretchy. Between “runs wide” and “toe box feels snug”, the practical read is: order your usual size, expect the upper to relax, and do not size up on the basis of the first ten minutes.
Washing them
The instructions differ slightly between colourway pages, which is worth flagging. One says remove the insoles, hand wash those separately and let everything air dry. Another says the shoe is machine-washable, with the insoles removed and hand washed separately.
The consistent part across both: the insoles come out and get washed by hand. Follow the page for the pair you actually bought.
The materials, and the missing numbers
Allbirds names the components precisely — TENCEL Lyocell from eucalyptus, recycled polyester, bio-based polyurethane foam, merino wool lining, SweetFoam from sugarcane. One page also cites castor bean oil-based insole foam.
What it does not publish anywhere is the percentage of each. So “eucalyptus fibre shoes” is accurate as a description of what is in them, and uninformative as a description of how much.
The sustainability claims, attributed
- Forest Stewardship Council certification on the tree fibre
- TENCEL Lyocell has a carbon footprint one-third lower than virgin nylon, per Allbirds
- Uses 95% less water than conventional cotton, per Allbirds
- Tree fibre mainly sourced from wood grown in South Africa, relying on natural rainfall with no artificial irrigation or fertilisers

Two things to check before buying
Discounted colourways are final sale — Allbirds states they cannot be returned, cancelled or exchanged. At $80 that is a real risk on a shoe you have not tried.
And the price we found was $105, not the $115 this page previously carried. Prices vary by colourway, so check the specific pair.
